The Sindh High Court (SHC) has issued a notice to the Attorney General concerning a petition filed by former President Dr. Arif Alvi, who is seeking the allotment of a permanent official residence for life, a right he claims under the law following his term. Dr. Alvi, who served from 2018 to 2024, was first allotted Bungalow No 3-A in Bath Island, Clifton, which was later substituted with Bungalow No 5-A. However, the latter property is currently occupied by a senior Customs officer, Shahab Imam, who obtained a stay order in 2023, leaving the former president without suitable accommodation. Alvi's lawyer criticized the federal government for failing to arrange proper accommodation and for allotting a property whose status was already encumbered. The petitioner urged the court to order the federal government to hand over possession of the Bath Island bungalow to Dr. Alvi. The SHC has directed the Attorney General to file a detailed, para-wise reply by the next hearing date.
