The National Assembly Standing Committee on Economic Affairs, chaired by MNA Mirza Ikhtiar Baig, was briefed on Thursday regarding several critical infrastructure projects. The feasibility study for the M-10 Hyderabad-Karachi Motorway, estimated to cost over Rs68 billion, is in its final stages and expected to conclude by December, offering a long-term solution for Karachi's traffic issues. Progress is also being made on the Lyari Expressway's technical feasibility and the Hyderabad-Sukkur Motorway, where procurement has started ahead of a June construction start. Regarding the Lyari Elevated Freight Corridor (LEFC), NHA officials clarified that financing is being secured via the Korean Exim Bank by another institution, and since the project was deemed feasible, focus shifted to the Northern Bypass, prompting the committee to seek further clarification from the Karachi Port Trust (KPT). Committee members also noted the complexity of land acquisition for the Hyderabad-Sukkur Motorway due to provincial involvement and were informed that repair works on the Mirpurkhas-Umerkot road are finished, with approval granted for the Ranipur-Umerkot road project.
